What happens when Artificial Intelligence interrogates, for the first time, the Sacred Scriptures?
“Uncomfortable” is the outcome of this inquiry, a project by MiTch Laurenzana that immerses us in an experience of disorientation, anomie, where the perception of reality clashes with revelation.
Through paired images of faces and objects, the project unveils a latent unease, a subtle dissonance between appearance and profound humanity. Detached, embarrassed gazes fall upon bodies captivating in their deliberate and sought-after aesthetic imperfection: scars, blemishes, defects that become messengers of our insecurities.
MiTch’s project uses verses from Sacred Scriptures as “prompts” for the AI, generating archetypes already compromised in their original beauty. An apparent interference between the purity of sacred messages and the evident “corruption” of contemporary humanity, suggesting that the artificial, while representing the sacred, leans towards the spirit of human imperfection. Each work is presented “untitled” here. The artist’s idea is not to immediately reveal the origin of the creative process, but to offer the visitor the possibility of a profound reinterpretation. Only after matching the artistic scenes to the complete verses of the Sacred Scriptures, explicitly detailed below, will the observer be able to discover their full emotional value and original, though not unambiguous, message. The awareness that the meaning of what we see resides in the interpretation of personal emotions is central to this journey.
The project, still evolving, aims to expand this research by including Scriptures not only Christian, but also those of the most relevant religions, with the utmost respect for the faith they represent. The objective is to create a contemporary Pantheon for reflection: a social unity devoid of differences, where the poetry of beauty and the fascination of the human, in all its imperfections, push us to imagine a harmonious cohabitation.
“Uncomfortable” is thus a poetic reflection on being, a deep dialogue between what is sacred, what is human, and what the artificial can reveal about us.
